House Quirks
- HOUSE QUIRKS
- Master bedroom blinds:
They sometimes slip slightly out of their track if tugged at an angle. If that happens, just slide the blind gently all the way up — it resets itself. - Dehumidifier bags in the bedroom:
You’ll see small moisture-capture bags hanging by the windows. They help keep condensation down — totally normal 🙂 - Heating (Nest thermostat):
The Nest controls the whole house. Turn the outer ring to adjust the temperature; press the screen to wake it. Very intuitive once you’ve used it once or twice. - Virgin Pure Water Dispenser
Located at the end of the kitchen countertop: This unit gives you purified water—cold, boiling hot, or room-temperature.
– For cold water, press the blue button.
– For boiling hot water:
1) Press the red “Boil” button. It will flash while heating.
2) When the button lights up solid red, the water has reached boiling temperature.
3) When solid red, press and hold the red button to dispense boiling water safely.
– For filtered room-temperature water, press the white/middle button.
Safety note: The boiling water dispenses at very high temperature—please place your cup on the tray before dispensing and hold the button while doing so.
The kitchen bins are hidden inside a drawer in the island in the middle. Recycling is on the left, all other rubbish to go inside a black bin bag on the right.
SAFETY & SECURITY
- Please lock the front door with the key every time you leave the house.
It doesn’t lock automatically when you pull it shut — it must be locked manually from the outside. - We like to leave the lights in the corridors on when the house is unoccupied, so that it looks like there is someone in the house at all times.
- Smoke alarms are installed on each floor. If one beeps intermittently, it usually means the battery is low — feel free to let us know.
- Emergency numbers:
– Police / Fire / Ambulance: 999
– Non-emergency medical advice (NHS): 111
– SmartHost Support: [insert number]
If anything feels unsafe or you’re unsure about something (e.g., power outage, water issue), please contact us and we’ll help straight away
Cleaning & House Care
CLEANING & HOUSECARE
- Cleaning products are under the kitchen sink.
- Hoover, mop, and broom are in the boiler cupboard in the utility room (next to the front door).
- With the dryer:
– Empty the water tray every few uses (pour it into the kitchen sink)
– Clear the fluff filter every several uses — it pulls out easily when you open the dryer door.
– If the dryer stops mid-cycle or lights start blinking, it’s almost always because the water tray is full or the fluff filter needs cleaning.
If you spill anything on the sofa or rug (it happens!), please use the fabric/carpet cleaner kept next to the sofa — the sooner you use it, the
